Lucas says it in the first second of the video so I hope you can catch it… I’ll try to get more of them talking soon, it’s so cute.

“car”

He said it this morning over and over again while playing with a new toy car.   He was actually yelling it “KA, KA, KA, KA!” he was so excited about talking.

Guck has replaced most every other word for Lucas.  Everything with a wheel is a guck.

I am getting over a bad food posioning today.  I was up all last night and in bed pretty much all day today.  I feel totally exhasted and hope tomorrow is better.

“guck.”  (truck)

“car.”

He pointed and said it with Bertram when he saw a car drive by in the street near a coffee shop we were going into.  Then he said it again that afternoon at home in reference to one of his toy cars and today he has been saying it a lot.  He was so happy when he noticed that he was wearing pajamas with pictures of cars all over them.  He saw one on his foot and said “car” and giggled.  He has been saying car all morning, but it sounds more like “Ka.”  Both Lucas and Eliot have been doing a lot of babbling but this is the first time one of them has said a real word, on purpose and unprompted in relation to an object.

I spend a lot of time with the babies at the Hastings Public library in the winter.  They have this sunny, elevated Children’s annex with a panoramic view of the Hudson river and the palisades that is a splendid place to spend time and play.  On the weekdays, there are usually other little kids and Moms so it’s a great place to make friends too.  We all went there this morning before the boys’ nap and I took some pictures to show you how lovely it is there.

We also went to the Children’s Museum on W.83rd st. in the city today and as you can imagine, it was amazing, and FULL of toddlers!  The boys had an incredible time and it was no problem getting there, parking, or getting home.  It took us 20 minutes to get home!  It is amazing the kind of life we can have and still be so close to the city, it baffles me.  I think Hastings, and all the rivertowns, but especially Hastings, is really the best place on earth.  I couldn’t imagine it much better, I love here.  I am so glad I can give this kind of life to the boys.

The babies will be starting a 2’s preschool program next september 3 days per week at this wonderful parent cooperative here in Hastings.  The teacher is amazing and we are very excited to be a part of the co-op.

All day long there was a family of five deer in our yard.  They were eating, sleeping and staring at us through the windows.  It always shocks me every time I see them, they are so big and I am used to pigeons and squirrels.  I loose my breath for a second with a wave of fear thinking they are wild horses or cows.  When we got back from the library, the boys stood in the driveway staring at two deer in the front yard, they were so thrilled, and cautious.  The deer stood still except for their twitching tails.

Eliot pooped in his diaper this morning and then ran to the toilet and tapped on the lid and smiled.  I was shocked!  I didn’t even know that he understood what a toilet was for!  amazing.

Lucas is sick again and I don’t know to what extent.  He threw up both his lunch and dinner and now he is sleeping.  I hope he can rest tonight.

Bertram is on his way to Paris until Thursday.

I have a sinus infection but am resisting antibiotics, I am hoping to cure it with a neti pot and an early bedtime.  (life with babies in the winter=constant sickness)  I also ordered carpet for our stairs and landing today because I took a nasty fall and have a blue, purple and yellow bruise the size of Texas on my arm.  Luckily, I didn’t break anything ;)  The boys are also excited about climbing them all day long and they need to be safer.

That was the day.

We all now seem to be over the wave of sleeplessness and sickness that has been keeping us down for weeks.  Sometimes it is hard to remember what it is usually like, when we are all well and functioning.  The first part of this week was one of the worst EVER.  Lucas cried for one entire day and never took a nap and had a burning fever.  Eliot was crying too, I think.  I actually can’t remember very well, it was that bad.  I felt like I was about to go nuts from all the whining.  Alas, we are all happy today.

Lucas likes this hat for some reason.  He wants me to put it on, then he laughs, then he wants me to put it on him.  It is adorable.  I took some pictures of him wearing it, and a video that I will have to upload later, but here are the pictures:

We are glad to be home again, the babies are finally sleeping.  We had a great time in Atlanta but Lucas just wouldn’t sleep past 4am so I was pretty tired the whole time.   Now we are all sick, once again.  Bertram had it then Eliot, now Lucas and I.

I put together a photo album from one day at the park and another at the aquarium during our stay in Atlanta.  The boys loved the aquarium, although they’re still a bit young for most of it.  Click here to see the pictures.
