The first summer we lived in Paris we had a terrible heat wave for three weeks straight. I think the temps must have been in the upper 90’s and 100’s everyday and there was no air conditioning anywhere, not in the restaurants, shops or apartments. No home depot to run to either for a window unit. Just heat and cold showers. Last summer in Paris, luckily for me, it rained for three months and felt like Fall until it really was Fall and the boys were born. New york has been pretty mild until now. Today it will be 100 and the weatherbug shows an icon of a cactus to on my desktop. Good thing there’s a home depot on 26th street. It was a popular place this weekend with temperatures around 99 both days. We were suffering a bit until Bertram brought home a window unit Sunday morning. The first picture below is Eliot before the relief, he was so hot.
The city is gross when it’s this hot. It stinks and feels so opressive. It’s a sensory overload, even the fire trucks sound louder and make me more irritable. And the crowds, the sweaty crowds… I wish we had a country house, or someone’s to escape to with the boys on the weekends, I want them to have grass to play in that I am not afraid of poisoning them. I am ready for a vacation, I haven’t left this general neighborhood since december :)
They boys are heaven sent and have been so actively progressing. They play together and laugh at each other, Eliot is standing with ease and Lucas is talking a lot. We have a teething break now, until Eliot decides to unleash his front four, which, I am convinced will make the world will fall apart temporarily. I hope that doesn’t happen when we are finally able to get out of town in a few weeks to see the Ortland clan. If it does, they will see the side of Eliot that makes one want to gauge their eye balls out. Lets hope not. Here are some new photos of the boys in all of their glowing glory, we had such a nice morning together…
